Rosie Duffield MP Visits Headway Canterbury
We were delighted to welcome Rosie Duffield, MP for Canterbury, to our Canterbury Hub this week. Rosie spent time with CEO Jenny Walsh and Head of Operations Hayley Cook learning more about the challenges people face after a brain injury – and how Headway Kent is helping them rebuild their lives.
As a long-standing supporter of community causes, Rosie was quick to recognise the value of Headway Kent’s work – not just in terms of rehabilitation, but in providing a safe, understanding space for people who are too often overlooked.
Spotlighting Hidden Disabilities
The visit came at a crucial time. Demand for our services continues to grow, particularly in the wake of funding cuts, changes to PIP and social care eligibility. Many of our clients are no longer eligible for support through statutory services – but their needs haven’t gone away.
We spoke with Rosie about:
The impact of brain injury on identity, relationships, and mental health
The importance of ongoing rehabilitation after medical discharge
Our plans to expand low-cost support for people falling through the cracks
Rosie has pledged to raise awareness of acquired brain injury (ABI) in Parliament and to help connect us with local health and care leaders to make sure the voices of survivors are heard.
Looking Forward
We’re incredibly grateful to Rosie for taking the time to visit, listen, and engage so openly. Visits like this help shine a light on the hidden reality of life after brain injury – and remind our members that they are seen, heard, and valued.
CEO Jenny Walsh said “Headway Kent is grateful for Rosie Duffield’s time, empathy and advocacy. As CEO, I am determined to use this momentum to advance our mission: ensuring every person affected by brain injury in Kent receives the resources, respect, and resilience they deserve”.
