Netflix Launches Groundbreaking Series Showcasing London’s Major Trauma System — Why It Matters to Headway Kent

Date: 29th July 2025

A powerful new Netflix documentary series, Emergency: The NHS on the Frontline, has just launched—and it’s something we strongly encourage our supporters, families, and professionals across Kent to watch.

The six-part series, released globally on 24 July 2025, takes viewers inside London’s world-leading Major Trauma System. This includes an extraordinary look at the emergency teams, trauma surgeons, rehabilitation specialists and, most crucially, the people behind the headlines—patients and their families navigating life-changing injuries.

Why This Series Hits Home for Us at Headway Kent

At Headway Kent, we work every day with individuals who are living with the long-term impact of traumatic brain injuries (TBI), many of which began in the kind of emergency situations depicted in this series: road traffic collisions, violent assaults, and falls.

The documentary offers rare insight into what happens in the critical minutes and hours after injury—and how those early decisions and actions can shape a survivor’s entire recovery journey. For many, this is the start of a long road of rehabilitation, advocacy, and support, which is where organisations like Headway Kent come in.

Spotlight on Neurorehabilitation and Recovery

While the series focuses primarily on emergency care, it also highlights the urgent need for more investment in long-term neurorehabilitation and post-acute care—something we at Headway Kent have long been campaigning for.

Too often, we see people discharged from hospital into a system that doesn’t fully support their complex needs. The result? Individuals falling through the cracks, families left to navigate the unknown, and preventable relapses in mental health and cognitive function.

As this documentary powerfully illustrates, saving a life is only the first step. Recovery from brain injury is a long-term process—and local, community-based support like ours is vital in helping people rebuild their lives.

Watch the Trailer and Join the Conversation

We believe this series will spark important conversations across the UK about brain injury, trauma care, and the gaps that exist between emergency services and community rehabilitation. It’s an unflinching, deeply human portrayal of survival and what comes next.
